About Us

LT Mike Singer
Commanding Officer

  • How long have you worked with Sea Cadets?
I was an adult volunteer for 1 year. An adult instructor for 1 year, and the Divisional Training Officer for 1 year.
I assumed command as the Commanding Officer in August 2007.
  • What got you interested in Sea Cadets?
I first learned about the Sea Cadets when my oldest son joined the division. As I attended drill weekends with him, I become more interested in the Sea Cadet program. I now have 2 sons in the Hunley-Yorktown Division.
  • Where are you originally from?
Born and raised in Southern Illinois.
  • How long have you lived in Charleston?
The Navy brought me to Charleston and it has been my home for the past 25 years.
  • What do you do for a living?
I work for a local wireless phone company.
  • Please list any community activities you are evolved in.
I enjoy working with young people and have been involved as a youth leader in both the church and the Royal Rangers for the past 12 years.
    Comment:
Many of our nation's youth have no idea what profession they want to pursue after high school. The Sea Cadets allow them to get a taste of the military and other maritime related occupations. So, by being a part of the Sea Cadets they are in a better position to make informed decisions about their future.

It's worth all the time and effort I put in to see the cadets change as they advance in the corps.
